Often when there is so much to say, not enough gets said. It’s hard for the words not to get caught on themselves. Finally the words don’t just come out; they pour out. So, let us say on behalf of every member of WYRM, thank you. Thank you for participating in the tournament, and for the signal boosting you may have done, to make this event more well-known. The kind words and stories we have heard mean an awful lot to us, and the publishing news of champions Dimitra Nikolaidou and Shawn Proctor inspire us to go further.

Let’s take a look back at the 2018 Gauntlet, and appreciate those who took time away from their lives to make this all work.

We would like to acknowledge the works of Harlan Ellison, Steven Brust, and Joss Whedon.

Finally, to anyone who reads this, to anyone who is with us, remember one thing. Things like outlines are fine, and they have taught us a lot. It’s NaNo season, and tallying your word counts can be great fun. A sound plan is all well and good, too. But no one to our knowledge has ever been able to find a substitute for fire. There’s no replacement for fight. Nothing will ever make up for a lack of passion. Undeniably, this is the spirit of the Gauntlet. In our finer moments, we live up to it. We hope that in your life you will keep moving forward. We hope that you will always go onward in all the months ahead.

    Until then,

Thank you to everyone who was involved in the Gauntlet, this year or earlier. You all rock. I hope that whatever your writing or personal goals may be, that you reach them with everything you’ve got.

    Chy Burch

Thank you, Gauntleteers, for making the Gauntlet such a wonderful and exciting contest to judge! We can’t wait to see what you all do in the years to come.
